Angry Boater: Joel Sanders

If you could turn your back on everything you knew to follow a dream, would you? Joel Sanders used to perform comedy in Vegas but, since 2010, he's living on a canal boat, floating around the UK's waterways. His podcast explores the quirky and often harsh realities of life afloat. You can see 'Angry Boater' live at 'Chilibomb' on Curtain Rd, Liverpool Street on Sunday September 19th - his first show in over a year. 'Angry Boater' will be live at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, twice daily, from Aug 6th to 26th (not Tuesdays). Showtimes are 3.45 pm to 4.45 pm at Finnegans Wake and 7.25 pm to 8.25 pm at City Cafe.

 

 

In this contentious and probably libellous episode, Lindsey Hood and I discuss recent changes at Springfield Marina, Carpenters Lock, London Moorings, Newbies, cake, King Salami & The Cumberland 3, The Victoria Park Facilities, Non Return Valves, Mis-functioning Water Pumps, being buried with your pets, dancing donkeys & Broxbourne.

Despite all the talk, Lindsay did not join me for cake afterwards. I ate a chocolate & pistachio brownie - alone.

In November 2017, as I was struggling to handle a tricky mooring situation in Little Venice, another boater helped me out. This was my first meeting with Pancho. He's helpful ... and from Peru. He's lived on his boat for just 6 months. 

In this podcast, we talk about being helpful, Faith and the nature of community - online,  in London and on the waterways. Pancho talks about his best friend's suicide and how this affected his outlook. Joel talks about 2 incidents he experienced on the Hammersmith & City line this week. 

There are several references to an earlier conversation that was supposed to appear at the end of the episode but the audio file was accidentally deleted. The interesting stuff is all in this section though.
